Telling Family About Ty

Four months after the loss of our son, Riley, God blessed us with being able to conceive again. To tell Dennis' family, we had them over for a cookout and I wore the shirt we had made that said, "Made in Ely, MN" over a heart that said BABY. To tell my family, I finished Riley's scrapbook, and on the very last page it said, "Surprise, I'm a big brother!"

The Crib

After a confirming ultrasound one week later, we came across a great deal on this crib and couldn't wait to put it together!

Finding Out About Ty

Being the impatient person that I am, I took a pregnancy test the day I was expecting to start my cycle. To my surprise, I was pregnant after our first time trying! Dennis was working at the firehouse that day. So after visiting with his neice and nephews and showing them around the firehouse, Dennis walked me to my car. Not thinking it was on his mind at all, he asked me if I had started yet. Surprised, I reached in my pocket and said, "I want to show you something." He said, "You took a test didn't you? Don't show me a negative test!" I told him to look at it and he said, "No way!" We never dreamed it would happen so quickly.

Catch-up

Let's see if I can play catch-up on the past 4 and a half years of our family's life.

Our Dating Years:

My husband and I met in health class at the young age of 14. We decided we were "going out" on March 17, 1995- St Patrick's Day. Through our high school years we literally grew up together as a couple. Dennis and I graduated together, with honors, from Center Grove High School in 1999. Dennis continued to complete his aviation technology training through Vincennes University located at the Indianapolis airport. He finished his education in December 2000 and was hired by Delta Airlines as an Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) in Atlanta, Georgia. So as he moved out of the only house he ever knew to a new state and adventure, I continued to live with my parents as I finished my nursing education. I graduated from the IUPUI School of Nursing with my BSN degree in May 2003.

Our Engagement & Wedding:

Newlyweds:

After getting married on July 5, 2003, Dennis and I lived in an apartment in Dunwoody, GA. He continued to work at an A&P mechanic for Delta Airlines and I worked as a NICU nurse at the Scottish Rite Children's hospital. One year later, we bought our first home in Suwanee, GA only to find out 3 months later that Delta was again planning a major layoff. After much prayer and converstaion, God layed it on our hearts to move back home to Indiana.

Back Home Again In Indiana...

The timing worked out beautifully. Just as we were planning a move home, my aunt Diann was planning to sell her home. So we bought it in Dec 2004. We fumbled our way through the "learning process" of first time home remodelers, but came out on the other side with a beautiful home. Dennis applied and was accepted his first time around into the Pike Township Fire Dept the summer of 2005. I continued working as a NICU nurse here at home at St Vincent Hospital.

Planning Our Family:

In November 2005, we decided to start a family. We even had a fire in our fireplace and burnt my birthcontrol pills on my 25th birthday:) God blessed us with the ability to become pregnant right away in January 2006, only to miscarry March 18, 2006. It was a devistating loss. But God allowed us to conceive again in July of that same year with our son Riley. You can read his story at the following link: http://www.trisomy18.org/site/TR/Events/General?pg=fund&fr_id=1070&px=1046681 Through all the trials we continued to trust in God for more children. He blessed us and we conceived again in July 2007 with our son Ty. After many extensive tests, we have been reassured that Ty is a healthy little boy. We are awaiting his arrival in March.

Well...Here it goes!

This is my first attempt at blogging. As a scrapbooker, myself, I'm learning that handmade scrapbooks are becoming a thing of the past. So in keeping with current technology and to keep others up-to-date on our lives, let's just say I'm learning about this new world of blogging. As our family is beginning to grow, I look forward to archiving our lives.
